General Information
Fisherground lodges are located right in the centre of the idyllic Eskdale dale, There are hundreds of strolls direct from the door from short strolls down the idyllic river Esk to tourism up Scafell Pike, England's highest mountain. There are 5 family welcoming pubs in the dale all of which cater food for those occassions when you don't want to chef, the nearest is only 400m away. The 3 craftsman built Log Cabins stand in an acre of orchard with old apple trees and the stream that opens out to the raft pool. What could be nicer than to sit out on the veranda with a gin and tonic and watch the world go by. All 3 overlook South and the orchard is a natural suntrap. The lodges share a washhouse, toys apartment and play district. The washhouse features a washing machine, tumble drier, ironing board, freezer and a payphone. Every lodge features an attractive wide living room, with Freeview Sky TV, and a dining district. The kitchen opens off this, and is perfectly fitted with fusion microwave oven, dishwasher, 4 ring hob, fridge and all the usual utensils and crockery. There are 3 bedrooms, one with a double bed, one with twin beds and 1 with a set of adult sized bunks. The bathroom features WC, washbasin and bathshower. Heating is by electricity, with coal effect fire in the hall and panel heaters throughout, which keeps the lodge warm whatever the season. The Electricity is on £1 coin operated metres charged @ 9p per unit (this is 34 of the price we pay for it but it does helps to encourage persons to turn things off and reduce the effect to the environment).
Transportation
From the South Leave the M6 motorway at mix 36 for KendalLakes. Follow signs to Barrow (A590). Turn right to Workington (A5092) three miles behind Newby Bridge and follow this highway for ten miles (it bypasses Broughton-in-Furness). Turn right to Ulpha before the River Duddon (at the traffic lights 34 mile behind Broughton). After four miles turn left in Ulpha countryside to the steep hill signed Eskdale. Follow the fell highway to the King George IV pub (6 miles). Turn right up the dale highway towards Boot. Fisherground (and Field End) is 200 yards on your left. Please take into account: whether you have satellite navigation, the advised route often appears to be over Wrynose and Hardknott passes which able to be extremely marvellous but are incredibly steep (England's steepest highway with gradients of up to one in three), windy and narrow. Following this route is shorter in distance but of course not quicker than the directions shown above. The postcode for Field End (Fisherground) is: CA19 1TF. From the North Leave the M6 at Carlisle (junction 44) and follow the A595 (signed Barrow). Turn off at Gosforth and follow the highway (6 miles) to Eskdale. Keep going right through Eskdale Village till you arrive to the George IV on your right. Turn Left up the vale highway towards Boot. Fisherground (and Field End) is 200 yards on your left.
