General Information
A Green Hope was once a little stone-built shepherd's house quietly tucked away on the corner of a farm, in the dale of the river Whiteadder, in the Lammermuir mountains of Berwickshire. Almost a mile from the following cottage, along a narrow lane, it was the sort of site authors wrote stories approximately and legends grew up around. The early saints would pass this way on their journeys between Iona and Holy Island, a small way down the beach. Centuries later, Scottish armies would camp surrounding in the dale, and the farmer would hide his cattle up the narrow glen, beyond the house, well out of sight. This was a part of the Border lands that was well acquainted with strife. Approximately all that's changed is that the small house features become a calm, big cottage, offering warm and welcoming cordiality. You are able to Bed and Breakfast here, or take the Cottage or the ensuite River Suite for a self-catering vacation. And the dale once associated with war is now a site of peace. The sun silent pours in the facade windows. And the river - tranquil soothes the mind and helps you drift off to sleep- perhaps to dream of kingfishers, salmon, or the buzzards that circle the sky by day. Oh yes, the privy lane is tarmacced now but the nearest cottage is quiet almost a mile away! On the other hand, Edinburgh is closer than it was, now less than an hour, and it is an simple drive to most of those abbeys and stately homes, terraces and courses in golf that produce the Scottish Borders so appealing. For a night, several days, or a month of refreshing stillness and tranquillity,
