General Information
The Pheasant is a beautiful ancient Coaching Inn located close to Bassenthwaite Lake at the unspoiled, northern end of the Lake District. It's one of the last remaining conventional Cumbrian hostelries with its unparalleled period ambience, sense of timelessness and pacific peaceful location. The Pheasant enjoys a well deserved national image among those who are used to being well cared for in a conventional manner. The heritage of The Pheasant stretches back over 500 years. Primarily a farm cottage, it was converted in more new years (1778) to a common Alehouse. One of its 19th century regulars was the eminent huntsman John Peel. He would often celebrate and recount his exploits in the tap apartment of The Pheasant now the guesthouse brasserie. You cannot retreat the sense of being encircled by heritage the moment you stroll in the door.
