White Lion Royal Hotel Bala

General Information

The White Lion Royal Hote stands in the very heart of city, (renovated june 05) this four STAR WTB and AA INN offers suitable suites and prominent breakfasts. It's convenient for all the entertaining service (leisure heart, swimming pool) and open-air activities (wind surfing, white water rafting, hole golf, rambling) offered in Bala. It is only a 5 minute stroll from Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake), or a thirty minute drive to the beach. All suites are en-suite and have DVD TV's plus tea and coffee amenities. This is one of the best known of all the hotels and inns in Bala, with its central and outstanding situation on the central street. Its origins as a hotel are unknown but the tablet above the facade door proclaims that the present building (with some alterations) features been there since 1759. George Borrow (famous Welsh writer 1803-1881) stayed during his travels via the region and penned his widely-known book entitled Wild Wales. It's no wonder that he returned here when we read his account of the breakfast that was catered to him: What a breakfast! Pot of hare ditto of trout pot of ready shrimps dish of plain shrimps tin of sardines scenic beefstake eggs muffin extensive loaf, and butter, not forgetting capital tea. Queen Victoria came to Bala in 1889 and during her visit at the Robertsons state seat at Pale, Llandderfel, several miles east of the city she purchased goods in 3 boutiques, and as a result they were granted permission to call themselves Purveyors by Royal Warrant. The major brasserie is a trendy haunt of locals and travellers and hosts occasional conventional music performances. The easeful BAR is one of the smallest bars in Wales dating from the hotel's days as a posting cottage and is also popular with locals. The building of the structure is similar to that as described by George Borrow.

Transportation

The inn is located in the very heart of High Street of Bala, a broad, unmissable black and white building, stunning in its apperance. Bala is on the major highway to the beach from the midlands. Only approximately 30 miles from Wrexham and Chester 20 mins from Dolgellau.
