Embedded in the pleasing countryside of Little Longstone, 4 miles from the very heart of Bakewell. A ideally appointed stone built period house that dates back to the late sixteenth century. Formally part of the Duke of Devonshire estate, with exposed beams, stonework and open fires, craven house proposes a affluence of fascination and character. Small charming village of Little Longstone, is located in the centre of the white peak. Embedded in an unspoiled scenery, the parish extends to Monsal Head, with lovely views over the vale and its prominent viaduct. The countryside with its 100 inhabitants, retains the seventeenth centuty Longstone Manor, and lovely cottages built during an era of affluence from lead mining and shoe making. The Longson family have lived in the countryside for over 800 years; a record few able to equal anywhere. There is also a well conserved set of countryside stocks, once a symbol of authority. The pub, the Pack Horse Inn, dates from then sixteenth century, and is a greeted stop for walkers and cyclists. Surrounding is a congregational chapel built circa 1870, and within a short distance are the countrysides of Ashford in the Water and Cressbrook. To the north lies Longstone edge, from where there are wonderful vistas over the wye vale. Central to all park amusements, the countryside proposes a pleasant base for a trip to Peak District. Small Longstone celebrates its well dressing at the end of July each year.
