Hartwell House, one of England's stately homes, just forty miles north west of London, was refurbished between 1987 and 1992 by Historic House Hotels, also proprietors of Bodysgallen Hall in North Wales and Middlethorpe Hall in York. The cottage features both Jacobean and Georgian has with well-known decorative ceilings and paneling, pleasant paintings and vintage furniture in its wonderful and roomy apartments. In 1938 the cottage and estate were rescued by Ernest Cook, an early hero of the conservation movement.
