The site is approx. 300 metres/330 yards from the town centre of Dalyan, in the Ortaca District. You are able to see the Lycian tombs, from circa 400 B.C., above the cliffs of the River Dalyan. In Turkish Dalyan means fishing weir; bass, mullet, and sea bream swim upstream in the River Dalyan past the city to Lake Koycegiz. On the other side of the river is Iztuzu Beach, often called Turtle Beach because it's a rare breeding ground for loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta). By auto you have to travel 57 km/35. four miles around Lake Koycegiz and the River Dalyan to receive there, but regular boat and minibus (dolmus) facilities connects Dalyan with Iztuzu Beach. Also on the opposite side of the river are the ruins of the old city of Kaunos. Dalyan is approx. 12 km/7. five miles from Ortaca, 61. five km/38. two miles from Fethiye, and 82 km/51. 0 miles from Marmaris.
