Antica Locanda Sturion Hotel Venice

General Information

Antica Locanda Sturion is situated in the center of Venice at only 2 mins short distance from the Rialto bridge and just fifteen mins from Saint Marks' piazza either by waterbus or foot. Facing the Grand Canal and the Rialto Bridge, the Locanda invites you to luxurious apartments ornamented in classic Venetian fashion, some facing the narrow avenue Calle del Sturion, some the venitian rooftops and 2 wide family apartments in the facade facing the Grand Canal. Hotel Sturion is 1st heard of towards the end of the 13th century, where above the arch at Calle dello Sturion and facing the Grand Canal was the House with the same name which the Doge of Venice had especially built to suit the enjoyment of foreign merchants taking their goods to the Market of Rialto. Renovated in the fourteenth century, the guesthouse reached the peak of its renown in the fifteenth century when renowned navigators and traders and even 7 Ambassadors from Friuli were amongst its visitors. In 1494, Vittore Carpaccio in his painting The Miracle of the Cross, which able to be seen at the Academy. The hotel was continually mentioned in a range of historical texts via the end of the eighteenth century. It then became the privy home of a rich Venetian family. In the 1950s, the guesthouse resurfaced in the same site and with the same foundations that had seen 7 hundred years of the Serenissima Repubblica di Venezia's heritage.

Transportation

From Marco Polo Venice airport, shuttle-bus untill Piazzale Roma (bus terminal) then boat line 1 to Rialto Mercato then ahead untill you find Calle del Sturion, or boat line two (faster but need to stroll across the Rialto bridge) then left along the Grand Canal untill Calle del Sturion. Alilaguna orange line waterbus facilities is an attractive option from the airport to Rialto stop to have a glimpse of the lagoon, it takes approximately 1 hour (check timetable). From Treviso Canova airport, shuttle bus to Piazzale Roma and then waterbus line 1 untill Rialto Mercato. From the railway station Santa Lucia in Venice, boat line 1 untill Rialto Mercato or line two untill Rialto.
