General Information

Houseboats, called Kettuvallams in the local language, are a idea particular to Kerala. Converted from what were initially rice boats, these free units cruise in the Alleppey Backwaters. A three-bedroom houseboat able to berth up to six groun-ups and 3 kids sharing bed with parents, conveniently. The bedrooms have a completely functional attached shower and a bathroom head. The houseboat features a sitting and dining region open on all sides to take in vistas. Every houseboat features a captain, engine operator, and an onboard cook. The two-bedroom houseboats are attainable in 4 categories: Budget Non-A/C; Standard Non A/C; Deluxe A/C (A/C operated only at night); and Super Deluxe A/C (A/C operated 24 hours). On the day of arrival, check-in is by noon and the trip starts from Alleppey. Note that after 6pm boats are not allowed to cruise on backwater because local fishermen spread their nets. Therefore those unable to check-in before 3pm are recommended to book 2 nights. The boat meanders through backwaters and canals unfolding countryside life on both sides till it reaches the Vembanad Lake where it moors for the night and returns with sunrise next morning back to Alleppey. The tariff consists of all meals on board. Maximum visit on the houseboat is 2 nights. The 2nd day is usually spent investigating life in Kerala in more detail around the waterways.
