The coast is directly a short stroll away from our hotel and the Lungomare sea prom is within short distance. The town of Rijeka is directly 20 km away from the Hotel Opatija for visitors who want to take a day tour. Margherita Park surrounds the inn. Location Information
Opatija, often called the Nice of the Adriatic, is one of the plurality favored tourist spas in Croatia and a site with the longest treveller custom on the eastern beach of the Adriatic. In 1844 the powerful merchant Higinio von Scarpa erected Villa Angiolina, with ravishing green and a lavish garden around it, visited by distinguished visitors - the Croatian Viceroy Josip Jelacic, the Austrian empress Maria Anna - which shortly made Opatija a famous excursion destination of the inhabitants from Rijeka, then of the Italians and Austrians. Opatija was the 1st in the area of the Adriatic to introduce treveller statistics already in 1884, and the 1st hotel on the Adriatic, called Kvarner, was constructed by the Society of the Southern Railways in 1884, located on the greatly beach and attractively furnished, it attracted exclusively elite visitors. With the construction of the inn, Opatija became an elite summer months resort, so that, apart from the 12km-long prom (Lungomare) from Volosko - Opatija - Lovran, a mountain path from Opatija to Veprinac and farther to Ucka was laid. Already in 1889 Opatija was declared the 1st climatic seaside on the Adriatic, which strengthened its situation as the majority stylish treveller resort. Numerous travellers and proprietors of the bungalows contributed by planting exotic plants to the horticultural grandeur. Opatija was so enchanting that, at the end of the nineteenth and start of the 20th centuries, it was visited by the then most famous personalities of the striking rank - Princess Luise von Sachsen Coburg, the Romanian king Charles I, the Swedish-Norwegian king Oscar, etc. Treveller development is Opatijas major feature even today.
